What Is Propylene Glycol?

Propylene Glycol (C₃H₈O₂, molecular weight 76.09) is a colorless, nearly odorless, hygroscopic liquid. It is classified as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA, making it suitable for food and pharmaceutical applications. With a boiling point of 188°C and a freezing point of -59°C, PG performs reliably across a wide temperature range.

1. Industrial Grade Propylene Glycol

Our industrial grade PG meets the requirements for non-food applications where high purity is needed but pharmaceutical-grade certification is not required. Typical applications include:

• Antifreeze & de-icing fluids — PG's low toxicity makes it preferred over ethylene glycol in aircraft and food-processing plant de-icing
• Unsaturated polyester resins (UPR) — Key raw material for fiberglass-reinforced plastics

USP (United States Pharmacopeia) grade PG meets the strict purity and quality standards required for food, cosmetic, and over-the-counter pharmaceutical applications. This is our most popular grade for international buyers.

Pharma grade PG complies with the most stringent pharmacopeial standards (USP/NF/EP/JP). It is manufactured under GMP conditions and comes with full documentation for regulatory submission.
